| | Steven Gerrard was presented with the Liverpool Disabled Supporters Association's Player of the Season award at a special ceremony at Melwood today. |
| The Reds skipper received the honour after members of the LDSA nominated him their star man of 2008-09. | |
"He had an all round excellent season. When your team are down, you look to your captain to help pick them back up, and that's certainly what he did throughout last season."
Upon hearing of the LDSA's visit, the likes of Rafa Benitez, Sammy Lee, Jamie Carragher and Pepe Reina were also keen to take the opportunity to drop by and say hello.
"We've always had a great relationship with the players and it's been fantastic to be invited down and given the chance to make this presentation," continued Colin.
"The disabled fans are a very integral part of Liverpool Football Club and some of them are the most loyal supporters around.
"Through thick and thin they'll always be there, whether it be a Wednesday night against Grimsby, or a game with Manchester United - they are very loyal fans."
LDSA committee member Tommy Hutchison added: "I've had a smile on my face for almost the last 48 hours leading up to this event. It was a lifelong dream to come here and present Steven with the award.
"He is a worthy winner because of his all round contribution to the team, not just as a player, but also as the captain of the team.
"This was shown in a number of games we found ourselves behind in last season.
"With the captain firing the team up, we went on to come back and win most of the games we'd fallen behind in. That in itself is tremendous leadership."
